Core Concept
Dance of the Wolves brings the instincts of a wolf pack to the stage without copying the animals’ appearance. Alertness, order, cooperation and shared strength come through in the choreography. The dancers spread out, draw closer, pause, follow and move forward together. Each keeps a sense of independence, yet responds to the rhythm of the group—much as wolves sense and respond to one another in unfamiliar surroundings.
The pack is not simply a symbol of aggression or dominance. It also stands for good judgment, trust and the quiet understanding that helps a group face the unknown. One person’s strength may be limited, but a shared purpose brings separate energies together. As small formations gradually grow into a full ensemble, the dance traces a journey from finding your way alone to finding support and moving forward with others.
The visuals use deep black space, cool white light and icy blue tones. Sharp shapes, vertical beams and crossing lines suggest forests, ravines and boundaries in the dark, as well as the paths of a moving pack. As the dancers change position, the imagery opens, closes and stretches around them. The screen becomes more than a backdrop: it forms a changing environment that the dancers inhabit.
The dancers bring real bodies and intent to the stage; the screen gives shape to emotions and shared energy that would otherwise remain invisible. When the dancers spread out, the visuals separate into distinct areas. When they come together, those pools of light reconnect and fill the stage. This exchange between live performers and virtual space lets the audience feel a pack assembling, without needing to see an image of a wolf.
The piece moves from restraint and watchful stillness towards expansion and release. Alongside the speed and strength of a moving pack, it explores how people find allies, build trust and choose a shared direction under pressure and uncertainty. A strong group does not erase individuality. It gives each person a place within a common purpose, allowing everyone’s strengths to grow.
